wish-off.

For Christmas we gave Claire some stars and a moon for her ceiling above her bed. When the lights go out the moon and stars stay aglow for a while.

Tonight as we looked at the stars I began to sing "When You Wish Upon a Star" (You should thank your lucky stars right now that this blog does not provide you with an audio version).

Claire: I am making a big wish on the big star. I wish for a baby sister. Please. God. PLEASE BRING ME A BABY SISTER!

I immediately made my own wish. On the moon.

Sense of Humor

Claire: You know, one of the things I hate about Matt? I don't like his sense of humor.

Betsy: Huh? Why's that?

Claire: I just don't.

Betsy: Well, regardless, I don't think you should say Hate.

Claire: Fine. I really, really don't like.

Gallissen Lane

Winter Wonderland...

Singing quietly:

Sleigh bells ring,
are you listenin'?
In the lane
called Gallissen.

The weather outside
is glory in my eye.
Walkin' in a winter wonderland.

Magic Markers and the Reindeers become one

This was sort of a combination of Claire pretending she's a teacher and the markers are the children, but are also reindeer and they each have their own color and... whew.

Talking to her magic markers- putting them back in the box...

You get back in here Comet and Cupid
and that Donner and Blitzen
and Rudolph go to the top don't you know
and Dixon, Comet, Cupid
Donner Prancer and Dancer
get in here.

I tell you the colors I need
I need yellow.
yellow, you are certain.
I need green.
I need blue.
Blue, you are certain.
Purple, I already know you're certain.
Purple you are certain.
Blue.
Blue you are certain.
Green, you are certain.
You may not go down there.
you are certain, you two.
you may sit up not lie down.
Certainly.

Rudolph, since you carry the sleigh, get in.
Comet, Cupid, Donner..
Donner? Donner?! DONNER!
BLITZEN GET READY.
Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Dixon and Blitzen get in.
Rudolph on the sleigh
Dancer get in here, the sleigh's moving.
But I can't get up.
PLEASE.
Look at Dancer- he's purple.

MOMMY! Get Dancer. she's down there.
mom- it's a marker, it's purple.
comet- get out.
Rudolph, show him what he's supposed to do.
Thanks.

OH, those reindeer go fast!

from the girl who hasn't gone to church since Easter...

Lordy heaven's sake
i love you
take some time to realize
the most important thing
is to give thanks to the Lord oh...
Give thanks to the Lord
Give thanks to the Lord
that made your history
don't give thanks
but do give thanks
to that Lord you know
to that Lord, to that Lord, to that Lord
you know.

Rubber Stamping

Claire was helping me with our Christmas cards. I put her in charge of decorating the envelopes with rubber stamps.

Here are a few quotes:

Claire: "I like helping people."
Betsy: "Me, too. It makes you feel good to help, doesn't it?"
Claire: "I know. And it's good because if you help people they'll want to help you."
Betsy: "That's right! You've figured out one of the secrets of life!"
Claire: "Mom... I've know that for like 200 years. Like when I was 3 I didn't know it, but when I was 4 I did."

Claire: "I'm like a machine at this!"

Claire: "Wouldn't it so great if we had a rubber stamp of Jesus?"

Jingle Bells

Claire: Mom, why do you think Santa has bells on his sleigh?

Mom: Oh, I don't know... maybe it's to help the reindeer... or to tell them when to come, or or turn, or, maybe it's because...

Claire (interrupting my rambling): Maybe it's just because he likes the way it sounds.
